Giuseppe Veronese

1854-1917

Italian mathematician who made important contributions to the study of projective geometry. At the early age of 26, Veronese described an ndimensional hypothesis which showed that simplifications could be obtained in passing to high dimensions. He also noted that when a simple surface in high dimension was projected onto 3-D space, difficulties would arise. Subsequent mathematicians, such as Italians C. F. Manara and C. Segre, would continue to discuss and publish papers on Veronese's work well into the twentieth century.
