SIDELIGHTS:

Geoffrey Giuliano has written numerous books about pop culture, with a particular focus on the music industry. His works include several biographies of famous rock musicians, as well as a number of books about the Beatles, both as individuals and as a group, and his biography of singer Paul McCartney, Blackbird: The Life and Times of Paul McCartney, made the London Sunday Times best-seller list. Giuliano is also a collector of Beatles memorabilia and has expressed interest in opening a Beatles museum in order to share his collection with fans of the group.

In Dark Horse: The Secret Life of George Harrison, Giuliano chronicles Harrison's life, both as a member of the Beatles and as a solo artist. He focuses primarily on the personal aspects of the man's life, including his relationships and spiritual interests, rather than on his music. David Hiltbrand, in a review for People, remarked: "The main deficit here is the music, which is mentioned only glancingly. That's too bad since Harrison fashioned what may be the best post-Beatles albums of the quartet."

Lennon in America: Based in Part on the Lost Lennon Diaries, 1971-1980 looks at the final decade of John Lennon's life, using his own diaries as a primary resource. The book addresses the tales of paranoia and Lennon's various personal habits. A contributor for Publishers Weekly found the work to be a "crude, predictable exhumation." However, in a review for Library Journal, writer Colin Carlson called Giuliano's effort "one of the best, most detailed books available on this subject."

Giuliano's more encompassing book, Revolver: The Secret History of the Beatles, recounts the history of the group from beginning to end, both collectively and as individuals. A contributor for Kirkus Reviews stated that Giuliano "fails to add anything that seasoned Beatles fanatics don't already know." However, David Pitt, writing for Booklist, remarked that "for the average reader, it's an eye-opener."
