Jardin, Nicolas-Henri
Jardin, Nicolas-Henri (1720–99). French Neo-Classical architect, he moved to Denmark in 1754, where, as Professor at the Royal Academy, he was influential. He continued the Frederikskirke, Copenhagen (1749–1894), a fine, domed Neo-Classical essay, begun by Eigtved, completing the lower part and the eastern portal: the church was finished by Harsdorff, Meldahl, and others. Jardin's dining-room (1755–7) in the Amalienborg Palace, Copenhagen, was described by Eriksen as probably the ‘earliest surviving room decorated entirely in the Neo-Classical style by a French architect’.
