Chittoor
Chittoor (chĬtōōr´), city (1991 pop. 133,462), S Andhra Pradesh state, SE India, in the Poini River valley. Chittoor is on the Bangalore-Chennai highway. It is a market for grain, sugarcane, and peanuts; its industries include oilseed and rice milling. The city is surrounded by mango and tamarind groves, and cattle are bred in the area. Chittoor, a district administrative center, was a British military post until 1884.
