American Society of Landscape Architects Council of Fellow Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To aid outstanding students who would not otherwise have an opportunity to continue a professional degree program in the area of landscape architecture due to unmet financial need; to increase the interest and participation of economically disadvantaged and underrep-resented populations in the study of landscape architecture through a more diverse population; to enrich the profession of landscape architecture through a more diverse population. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be permanent U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens who are third, fourth, or fifth year undergraduates at Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board accredited programs of landscape architecture. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $4,000. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply:

Applicants must submit a 300-word essay about how the applicant envisions himself or herself contributing to the profession of landscape architecture; two letters of recommendation specifically addressing the quality of applicant's performance as a student of landscape architecture and promise as a professional (one letter of recommendation must come from a faculty member and the other one must be sent by a non-academic member); and a student aid report. Deadline: February 15.

Class Fund Ornamental Horticulture Scholarship Program (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in programs in landscape architecture and ornamental horticulture in California. Focus: Landscape architecture; Horticulture. Qualif.: Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students in financial need who show promise and commitment to the profession; must be continuing their studies in landscape architecture or ornamental horticulture. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $3,000. Number Awarded: 1. To Apply: Applicants must submit a 300-word statement on the profession; 100-word statement indicating intended use of funds; two letters of recommendation from the faculty; and one confidential letter of recommendation from the department head. Deadline: February 15.

The Dangermond Fellowships (Postgraduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To promote and facilitate the integration of art, science, method, and technology in the study and profession of landscape architecture; to encourage the use of geographic information systems as a framework for exploring integrated approaches to landscape assessment and intervention. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be graduate students of landscape architecture. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the creative use of geographic information systems as a framework for exploring integrated approaches to landscape assessment (analysis) and intervention (planning, design and management).

Funds Avail.: $10,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a three page-or-less proposal for the work to be undertaken stating an objective, outcome and method, transferability of the proposed work, deliverables, and level of institutional support; a cover letter from the principal faculty advisor indicating his/her faculty position and confirming department approval and adherence to the overall goals of the fellowship; a specific delineation of the roles of each team member and faculty advisor; one-page biographical sketch of the faculty advisor; and two letters of recommendation for individual or team efforts from faculty members not involved in project. Deadline: February 15.

Edith H. Henderson Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding architect student. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be students pursuing a program in landscape architecture. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic achievement.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a typewritten essay review of Mrs. Henderson's book entitled “Edith Henderson's Home Landscape Companion” (200-400 words maximum). Deadline: April 1. Contact: rfigura@ lafoundation.org.

LAF/Class Fund AILA/YAMAGAMI/Hope Fellowships (Postgraduate/Fellowship)

Purpose: To provide for the middle ground where the designer, landscape contractor and nursery man, as well as those in formal training could meet and discuss common problems and experiences. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must have earned a bachelor's or a mater's degree in landscape architecture; must be landscape architects who have been in practice for a minimum of three years and wish to use the funds for continuing education. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on innovative nature of the proposed endeavor; the benefits that may accrue to other members of the profession and the profession in general; the personal goals to be achieved; and qualifications of the applicant.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a summary of the uniqueness of the proposed activity, skills/knowledge to gain, increased proficiency, and opportunity to exist (500-word); a statement of intent (maximum of 100 words) detailing how the funds would be used and a line item budget if applicable; and two letters of recommendation from licensed landscape architects. Deadline: August 1.

William J. Locklin Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding architect student and to emphasize the importance of 24-hour lighting in landscape designs. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be students pursuing a program in lighting design or landscape architectural students focusing on lighting design in studio projects. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on quality of the design and its effect.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced 300-word essay highlighting the design project, the overall effect to be obtained, rationale for choice of lamp and placement of fixture, and anticipated results; visual samples (schematics/renderings/sketchers or other plans) reduced 81/2“X11”; and one letter of recommendation relevant to the proposed project and applicant, preferably from a current professor. Raymond E. Page Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To give an undergraduate student the opportunity to follow Mr. Page's example of directing profession in the area of landscape architecture and design by answering the challenges of tomorrow. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be currently enrolled in an institution or university. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic standing and financial need.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a double-spaced, two-page essay describing the applicant's need for financial assistance and how the award is to be used; a letter of recommendation from a current professor who is familiar with the applicant's character and goals in pursuing an education in landscape architecture; three copies of application; and a cover sheet. Rae L. Price Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To bring young creative individuals into careers in the area of landscape architecture and design who may not otherwise have the financial ability to cover all the costs of their educational program. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are undergraduate students in the final two years of study in LAAB accredited schools; must demonstrate financial need; and must have a minimum “B” GPA. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on financial need.

Funds Avail.: $5,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a 500-word essay describing the applicant's aspirations, ability to surmount obstacles, high level of drive, and need for financial assistance; two letters of recommendations from current professors familiar with the applicant's character and goals in pursuing an education in landscape architecture. Deadline: February 15.

Rain Bird Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding architect student. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be undergraduate students majoring in landscape architecture. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on demonstrated commitment to the profession through participation in extracurricular activities and exemplary scholastic achievements.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced 300 word-essay stating career goals and explaining how he/she will contribute to the advancement of landscape architecture. Deadline: April 1. Contact: [email protected].

Harriet Barnhart Wimmer Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding architect student. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be females entering their final year of undergraduate landscape studies who have demonstrated excellence in design ability and sensitivity to the environment. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on demonstrated excellence in design ability and sensitivity to the environment.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced autobiography and statement of personal and professional goals with a maximum of 500-words; one letter of recommendation regarding student's design abilities and attitude from a design instructor; graphic samples of work from three different projects, comprising a total of six 8X10 black and white or color photos; brief written descriptions of design intent for each graphic; and financial aid forms. David T. Woolsey Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To recognize an outstanding architect student. Focus: Landscape architecture and design. Qualif.: Applicants must be third, fourth, or fifth year undergraduate or graduate students of landscape architecture who are permanent residents of Hawaii. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on academic achievement.

Funds Avail.: $1,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit a typed, double-spaced autobiography and statement of personal and professional goals with a maximum of 500-words; a design work; three 8X10 color and/or black and white photographs; two letters of recommendation including one from a design instructor; and proof of Hawaii residency.
