American Society for Horticultural Science Student Travel Grants (Graduate, Undergraduate/Grant)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students in the area of horticulture. Focus: General studies. Qualif.: Applicants must be enrolled in horticultural science as a major course of study and must have submitted an abstract title or complete abstract for presentation at the ASHS Annual Conference. Criteria: Grants will be awarded on the basis of merit and geographical distribution.
Funds Avail.: $500 (domestic graduate and undergraduate students); $750 (international students). Number Awarded: Varies. To Apply: Applicants must accomplish application and abstract. ASHS Industry Division Student Travel Grants (Graduate, Undergraduate/Grant)
Purpose: To provide financial assistance to students in the area of horticulture who are attending the ASHS Annual Conference. Focus: Horticulture. Qualif.: Award is open to all undergraduate and graduate Horticulture students. Criteria: Applicants will be selected based on academic achievement (30 points for 4.0 GPA), recommendation (20 points) and essay (50 points).
Funds Avail.: $750. To Apply: Applicants must submit transcripts, completed application, letter of recommendation from undergraduate advisor or faculty member, and a 500-word essay outlining interest in horticulture and career goals.
ASHS Scholars Awards (Undergraduate/Scholarship)
Purpose: To recognize and support scholastic achievement and to encourage career development in horticultural
science at the undergraduate level. Focus: Horticulture. Qualif.: Applicant must be an undergraduate student of any class standing at the time of the application; must be registered as a full-time student (minimum 10 credit hours) and actively pursuing a degree in horticulture. Criteria: Recipients are chosen based on excellence in academic and scholastic performance in the major (an area of horticulture) and supporting areas of science; participation in extra curricular, leadership and research activities relating to horticulture; participation in university and community service; demonstrated commitment to the horticulture science profession and related career fields; and related horticultural experiences.
Funds Avail.: $1,500. Number Awarded: 2. To Apply: Applicants must be nominated by the chair/head of the department in which they are majoring; must submit completed application supported by a 250-500 essay, complete resume, three letters of reference, and official university/college transcripts. Miklos Faust International Travel Awards (Postdoctorate/Fellowship)
Purpose: To promote international cooperation in fruit crops research and education. Focus: Horticulture. Qualif.: Applicants must be young scientists (less than 40 yrs. old) who are actively involved in fruit science research; must hold or pursuing a doctoral degree. Criteria: Applications are reviewed according to evidence of high originality and strong commitment to research in fruit science.
