Fischer, Annie (1914—)

Hungarian pianist, particularly known for her Beethoven recordings. Born in Budapest, Hungary, on July 5, 1914.

Annie Fisher studied with Ernst von Dohnanyi at the Franz Liszt Conservatory in her native city of Budapest. In 1933, she won first prize in Budapest's International Liszt Competition. Over the years, she has mastered an imposing repertoire, communicating her ideas with impressive sonority and a powerful technique. Fischer's recordings have usually received high marks, with her Beethoven performances being singled out as readings of extraordinary insight. Her interpretations of Mozart have also been highly rated.
