American socialite. Born 1835; died 1908; dau. of Pierce Butler (d. 1867, plantation owner) and Fanny Kemble (1809–1893, actress); m. Owen Jones Wister (Philadelphia physician); children: Owen Wister (1860–1938, novelist who wrote The Virginian).
