American diarist and poet. Name variations: Sally Wister. Born 1761 in Philadelphia, PA; died April 21, 1804, in Philadelphia, PA.
Attended Quaker school run by philanthropist Anthony Benezet; while staying in rural Pennsylvania, wrote journal account of American Revolution for 2 girlfriends which was later published in The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography (1885–86); also wrote devotional journal (1796–97), published with other writings in Kathryn Zabelle Derounian, ed., The Journal and Occasional Writings of Sarah Wister (1987).
