Chloranthaceae A family of trees, shrubs, or herbs, which are often rather succulent. The leaves are opposite. The flowers are tiny, reduced, and borne on spicate racemes. The fruit is a tiny drupe. The family is related to Lauraceae. There are 4 genera, with 58 species, occurring in tropical America, and from China and India to Melanesia and New Zealand.
