Bifidobacterium A genus of Gram-positive bacteria in which the cells are pleomorphic and often Y- or V-shaped. They are anaerobic, fermenting glucose to produce acetic acid and lactic acid. They are found in the gut in a wide range of mammals, fowls, and bees; certain species are common in human infants' intestines. They are non-pathogenic.
