Koch, Marita (1957—)
East German runner. Born on February 18, 1957, in East Germany.
Marita Koch, who once held world records in both the 200 meters and 400 meters, won the gold medal in the 400 meters in the Moscow Olympics in 1980, as well as the silver in the 4x100 meters. In 1982, she placed first in the 400-meter race in the European games in Athens, Greece, with a time of 48.16. In the 100 meters, her personal best time was 10.83. Koch's main rivals were Irena Kirszenstein-Szewinska and Evelyn Ashford .
