KOCHAN, LIONEL
KOCHAN, LIONEL (1922– ), British historian. Kochan was educated at Cambridge and London Universities and was Bearsted reader in Jewish History at Warwick and East Anglia Universities. He wrote widely on modern Russian and modern German history as well as on modern Jewish history. Kochan was the editor of The Jews in Soviet Russia since 1917 (1970; rev. ed. 1978), The Jew in His History (1977), Jewish Idolsand Messiahs – The Challenge From History (1990), and many other works. With his wife, Miriam, he contributed for many years the annual survey of Jewish life in Great Britain to The American Jewish Year Book.
