Chinese-born table tennis champion. Born on April 9, 1969, in Tianjin, China, near Beijing; moved toWheaton, Maryland, then Augusta, Georgia; married; children: one.

Born in Tianjin, China, near the city of Beijing, on April 9, 1969, Amy Feng began playing table tennis at the age of nine. In March 1992, she moved to the United States and has since been the number-one ranked woman in American table tennis. Internationally, she won the women's singles in table tennis at the Polish Open (1985), the Chinese World College championships (1987), the Canadian National Exhibition (1992), as well as the North American championship series, Women's Allstar Singles, and the Chinese New Year tournament (all 1994). In the United States, Feng placed first at the Southern Open, the Pacific Rim Open in Portland, Oregon, and the Sun TV Open (all 1992) and was North American champion (1993). Known for her quick serve and explosive attack, Feng was the U.S. Table Tennis National champion in women's singles in 1992, 1993, 1994, and 1995, and came in second at the U.S. Olympic trials in 1996. But Feng failed to medal in the Atlanta Olympics. Liu Wei of China defeated her 16–21, 21–8, 21–15, taking advantage of forehand errors in the final two sets.
