James F. Gusella
American geneticist who was the first to find a genetic marker for Huntington's disease. This was one of the first diseases for which a positive genetic marker was located, making it possible to identify people likely to develop the disease in the future. This information could also be used, via amniocentesis, to identify fetuses with the potential to develop Huntington's disease later in life.
