Ypresian
1. The earliest age in the Eocene Epoch, preceded by the Thanetian (Palaeocene), followed by the Lutetian, and dated at 56.5–50 Ma ( Harland et al., 1989).

2. The name of the corresponding European stage, named after the Ypres Clay, Belgium. It is roughly contemporaneous with the Penutian and lower Ulatizian (N. America), upper Waipawan, Mangaorapan and lower Heretaungan (New Zealand), and the lower Johannian (Australia).
