Aphanizomenon A genus of filamentous cyanobacteria. The filaments aggregate into raft-like bundles and float at the surface of lakes, ponds, etc. Freshwater blooms of some strains of A. flos-aquae can lead to poisoning of animals and contamination of water supplies.
