aphyric
aphyric An igneous rock texture characterized by a fine-grained aphanitic groundmass and by an absence of any phenocrysts. Aphyric texture forms by the rapid crystallization of melts lacking large suspended crystals, and thus these melts must have been very close to their liquidus temperature (the temperature at which initial crystallization takes place in a cooling melt).
