Bodky, Erwin
Bodky, Erwin, German–American music scholar; b. Ragnit, March 7, 1896; d. Lucerne, Dec. 6, 1958. He studied piano and theory in Berlin with Dohnányi and Juon, and later attended classes of Richard Strauss and Busoni at the Meisterschule für Komposition (1920–22). He subsequently taught at the Scharwenka Cons, in Berlin. With the advent of the Nazi regime in 1933, Bodky went to Amsterdam, where he remained until 1938. He then emigrated to the U.S., and taught at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Mass. (1938–48). In 1949 he was appointed a prof, at Brandéis Univ.
