Tȧkhāh

Taṅkhāh (Pañjābī, ‘a fine’). Penalty imposed on lapsed Sikhs. The taṅkhāh imposed is normally sevā (service) of the saṅgat (congregation), e.g. minding shoes, sweeping the gurdwārā, or else additional daily recitation of nitnem (prayers from the Ādi Granth).
