Dīpaṃkara
Dīpaṃkara (Skt., Pāli, Dīpankara). ‘Kindler of lights’, best-known and first of the twenty-four Buddhas who preceded Buddha Śākyamuni. With him and Maitreya, Dīpaṃkara is one of the Buddhas of the three ages, past, present, and future. See also FORMER BUDDHAS.
