Bhindrānawāle, *Sant Jarnail Siñgh (1947–84). Controversial Sikh leader. Jarnail Siñgh was the leader of a religious institution, Damdamā Sāhib Taxāl, which was reputedly founded by the 18th-cent. Sikh hero, Bābā Dīp Siñgh. He opposed the Sant Nirañkārīs, and inspired militant support for Khālistān. He was killed in the Akāl Takht by the Indian army during Operation Blue Star.
