Guntur
Guntur (gōōntōōr´), city (1991 pop. 471,051), Andhra Pradesh state, SE India. Located in the Krishna River delta, the city is a railroad junction and agricultural market for jute, tobacco, and rice. Founded by the French in the 18th cent., Guntur was ceded to Great Britain in 1823.
