Vlaminck, Maurice (1876–1958) French painter, graphic artist, and writer. One of the leading exponents of fauvism, Vlaminck painted with colours squirted straight from the tube, producing exuberant landscapes that were partly inspired by the work of Vincent Van Gogh. In 1908, he began using darker colours and studied Paul Cézanne in an attempt to give his painting more weight.
