Louis VII (1120–80) King of France (1137–80). His marriage to Eleanor of Aquitaine extended the French crown's lands to the Pyrenees. As King, he consolidated royal power. Returning from the Second Crusade, Louis divorced Eleanor for alleged infidelity. She married Henry II of England, whose French territories then became greater than those of Louis. Louis retaliated by supporting the rebellions of Henry's sons.
