Louis Seize

Louis Seize. Style of Neo-Classical architecture that really began during the reign of King Louis XV, but evolved in that of Louis XVI (1774–92). It was marked by simplicity, even severity, manifest in its more extreme forms in the barrières of Ledoux and in the same architect's Salines (Salt Works) d'Arc-et-Senans (1775–80). It also included refined detail in schemes of interior design, much less exuberant in its use of ornament than during the previous reign.
