Rau, Heinrich Heinz
Rau, Heinrich Heinz (1896–1965). German-born Israeli architect. He emigrated in 1933 and opened his own office in 1935. His early houses betray a stripped German Neo-Clas-sicism derived from the work of Schinkel. He drew up a plan for Jerusalem, concentrating on the new Government precinct and University campus. Among his works may be mentioned the Synagogue (1957) and the Einstein Institute Mathematics Building (1959), Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and the Hebrew Union College, Jerusalem (1963). He published Better Housing in England in the 1960s during a spell as Visiting Lecturer in Manchester. He retired to the Black Forest in Germany, where he died. For a brief period in the 1950s he was in partnership with Reznik.
