Sidelights

Marvin Rosen is a licensed clinical psychologist who has authored several works that focus on the psychological effects of a changing society. Educated at Cornell University and the University of Pennsylvania, Rosen interned at the V.A. Hospital at Perry Point, Maryland. He worked as a child psychologist at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia and then began a thirty-eight-year career at Elwyn, Inc. in Elwyn, Pennsylvania. In addition to maintaining a private practice in psychology, Rosen was principal investigator during a lengthy follow-up study of persons who left the institution for independent living, started a preschool language program for at-risk three and four year olds, directed a head trauma program, and helped develop a program for emotionally disturbed youngsters in out-of-home placements. While at Elwyn, Rosen authored or edited several textbooks.

Retiring in January of 2002, Rosen quickly decided that the retiree lifestyle was not for him. He returned to work part-time as a school psychologist at Interboro School District in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. In addition to serving as consulting editor for several books by other authors, he has also penned books such as Dealing with the Effects of Rape and Incest and Understanding Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, both of which are geared toward a young-adult readership.

Rosen lives with his wife Joyce in Media, Pennsylvania, fifteen miles south of Philadelphia, where he is the proud father of four married children and several grandchildren.
