Morère (real name, Couladère), Jean

Morère (real name, Couladère), Jean, French tenor; b. Toulouse, Oct. 6, 1836; d. Paris, Feb. 1887. He studied with Paul Läget in Toulouse, making his debut as Manrico at the Paris Opéra in 1861, where he sang until 1869. He created the title role in Verdi’s Don Carlos there in 1867, and also appeared in Brussels at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (1865–66; 1869–70). He suffered a mental derangement in the wake of the Franco-Prussian War in 1871.
