Moreschi, Alessandro

Moreschi, Alessandro, Italian castrato soprano; b. Montecompatri, near Rome, Nov. 11, 1858; d. Rome, April 21, 1922. He studied with Capocci in Rome, and from 1883 to 1913 sang at the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. The last of the castrati, he had a voice of such purity and beauty that he was nicknamed “l’angelo di Roma.”
