Hauser, Franz (actually, František)
Hauser, Franz (actually, Frantisele), Bohemian baritone; b. Krasowitz, near Prague, Jan. 12, 1794; d. Freiburg im Breisgau, Aug. 14, 1870. He was a student of Tomaschek in Prague. In 1817 he made his operatic debut there as Sarastro, and continued to sing there until 1821. He then appeared in Kassel (1821–35), Dresden (1825–26), Frankfurt am Main (1826–29), Vienna (1829), London (1832), and Berlin (1835). In 1837 he went to Vienna as a voice teacher, and later served as director of the Munich Cons. (1846–64). In 1866 he brought out a singing manual. Among his finest roles were Figaro, William Tell, and Spohr’s Faust.
