Fernándas, Armando José

Fernándas, Armando José, Portuguese composer and teacher; b. Lisbon, July 26, 1906; d. there, May 3, 1983. He studied piano with Key Colago and Varela Cid, composition with A. da Costa Ferreira, and musicology with Freitas Branco at the Lisbon Cons. After training in piano with Cortot and in composition with Boulanger in Paris (1933–36), he taught composition at the Lisbon Cons.

(1951); O terramoto de Lisboa, symphonic poem (1962); Suite Concertante for Harpsichord and Chamber Orch. (1967); Violin Sonata (1946); piano pieces.
