Thumbsucker ★★★ 2005 (R)

Seventeen year old Justin's (Pucci) underachieving, unfulfilled parents Mike (D'Onofrio) and Audrey (Swinton), saddled with their own baggage, are incapable of dealing with their son's embarrassing thumb-sucking habit. Justin's habit lands him in the office of the orthodontist/ newage guru Dr. Perry Lyman (Reeves), who uses hypnosis to break Justin's habit. But now without a coping mechanism Justin suffers from ADD. Newly armed with Ritalin and a pharmaceutically enhanced selfconfidence, he becomes an arrogant, bullying monster. The beauty of this film is in the way Justin relates to the adults around him—all of whom range from eccentric to obscure and are played to perfection. 97m/C DVD .
