The Serpent's Egg
The Serpent's Egg ★½ Das Schlangenei 1978 (R)
Big disappointment from the great Bergman in his second film in English. Ullmann is not sultry and Carradine is horrible. Big budget matched by big Bergman ego, making a big, bad parody of himself. The plot concerns a pair of Jewish trapeze artists surviving in Berlin during Hitler's rise by working in a grisly and mysterious medical clinic. 119m/C VHS, DVD . GE David Carradine, Liv Ullmann, Gert Frobe, James Whitmore; D: Ingmar Bergman; W: Ingmar Bergman; C: Sven Nykvist.
