The Last Days of Disco ★★★ 1998 (R)

It's the early 80s and the disco scene is still alive, although it's beginning to develop a wet, hacking cough. Oblivious to this fact are brash Charlotte (Beckinsale) and reserved Alice (Sevigny), recent college grads who work as low-level corporate drones by day and party at an exclusive Studio 54-like club by night. The girls mingle with a group of Harvard educated proto-yuppie clones that include hot shot assistant D.A. Josh (Keeslar), environmental lawyer Tom (Leonard) and ad man Jimmy (Astin). Also populating the club are assistant club manager Des (Eigeman) and shady club owner Bernie (Thornton). Sharp, funny dialogue (and plenty of it) help ease the fact that the characters are merely poor little rich kids who need to shut up and dance. 113m/C VHS, DVD . Chloe Sevigny, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Eigeman, MacKenzie Astin, Robert Sean Leonard, Matt Keeslar, Tara Subkoff, Jennifer Beals, David Thornton, Michael Weatherly, Burr Steers; D: Whit Stillman; W: Whit Stillman; C: John Thomas; M: Mark Suozzo.
