The Children's Hour
The Children's Hour ★★ The Loudest Whisper 1961
The teaching careers of two women are ruined when girls begin circulating vicious rumors. Only an occasionally taut drama despite forceful handling of a lesbian theme. Updated version of Lillian Hellman's play (adapted by Hell-man) is more explicit, but less suspenseful in spite of excellent performances from the talented cast. Remake of Wyler's own “These Three.” 107m/C VHS, DVD . Shirley MacLaine, Audrey Hepburn, James Garner, Miriam Hopkins, Veronica Cartwright, Fay Bainter; D: William Wyler; W: John Michael Hayes; M: Alex North.
