The Bishop's Wife
The Bishop's Wife ★★★ 1947
Episcopalian biship Henry (Niven) is praying to find the money to build a new church but his faith is shaky and his marriage to Julia (Young) even more so. But his prayers are answered (although Henry doesn't know it) in the form of angel Dudley (Grant), who's sent down to earth at Christmas to help work things out. Excellent performances by the cast make this an entertaining outing. Based on the novel by Robert Nathan. 109m/B VHS, DVD . Cary Grant, Loretta Young, David Niven, Monty Woolley, Elsa Lanchester, James Gleason, Gladys Cooper, Regis Toomey; D: Henry Koster; W: Leonardo Bercovici, Robert Sherwood; C: Gregg Toland; M: Hugo Friedhofer. Oscars '47: Sound.
