Poynton, Dorothy (1915–)
American diver. Name variations: Dorothy Poynton-Hill or Dorothy Poynton Hill. Born Dorothy Poynton, July 17, 1915, in Portland, OR.
At 13, was the youngest American to win an Olympic medal, taking the silver in springboard diving at Amsterdam (1928); won a gold medal in platform at Los Angeles Olympics (1932); won a gold medal in platform and a bronze medal in springboard at the Berlin Olympics (1936); ran the Dorothy Poynton Swim Club in Los Angeles.
