Italian poet. Name variations: (pseudonym) Moderata Fonte. Born 1555 in Venice, Italy; died in childbirth in 1592; m. Giovanni Nicolò Doglioni.
Well educated, was encouraged by husband to continue studies; writings include Tredici canti del Floridoro (1581), Le feste: Rappresentazione avanti il Serenissimo Principe di Venezia Nicolò da Ponte (1581), and Il Merito delle Donne (1600), her best known work, which contributed to the debate over the relationship between the sexes.
