Guro, Elena (1877–1913)
Russian poet and playwright. Name variations: Elena Genrikhovna or Genrichovna Guró; Elena G. Guro. Born Elena Genrichovna Guro in 1877 in St. Petersburg, Russia; died 1913 in Usikirko, Finland; trained as a painter.
Influenced by Russian futurists and by Russian and western Symbolists like Andrei Bely, Aleksandr Blok, and Friedrich Nietzsche, and by novelist Knut Hamsun, was the only woman to gain prominence as a Russian Futurist writer; influenced several Russian writers including Cherubina de Gabriak (Elizaveta Dmitreva) and Mariia Shkapskaia; works include Hurdy-Gurdy (1905, 1914), Autumnal Dream (1912), and The Little Camels of the Sky (1914).
