Zeitz
Zeitz (tsīts), city (1994 pop. 37,461), Saxony-Anhalt, E central Germany, on the White Elster River. Manufactures include machinery, chocolate, sugar, and textiles. Of note in the city are the late-Gothic Church of St. Michael and a castle (17th cent.), whose church contains the tomb of the 16th-century scientist Georg Agricola.
