Sir Arthur Helps, 1813–75, English historian and author. His works include Friends in Council (3 series, 1847–59), dialogues on social and intellectual subjects; The Spanish Conquest in America (4 vol., 1855–61); Realmah (1868), a political novel; and The Life of Columbus (1869). He edited the published speeches of Prince Albert and the works of Queen Victoria.
