SIDELIGHTS: Peter Helton's debut crime novel features artist and private detective Chris Honeysett, and is set in Bath, England, Helton's own home town. Protagonist Chris, described as "a wonderfully caustic main character," by Connie Fletcher in Booklist, lives on a farm with a female friend and artist who is also his partner in Aqua Investigations. As the story opens, Chris investigates the theft of artwork from a wealthy estate. As the story progresses, Chris discovers the body of a good friend, a woman who worked in a halfway house for mental health patients, and he becomes a suspect in the murder case. In a review of the book for Library Journal, Rex E. Klett noted that "skillful plotting, wry humor, and deftly drawn characters mark this debut."
