Morales, Eusebio A. (1865–1919)

Eusebio A. Morales (b. 1865; d. 1919), Panamanian lawyer and politician and one of the leading figures in the Liberal Party. He served in many government posts, including minister to the United States and secretary of the treasury. He wrote many essays on contemporary politics, which were later published in the book Ensayos, documentos y discursos (1977). Morales had presidential aspirations, but he had to abandon them after his supporters failed to change an article in the constitution that required presidents to be Panamanians by birth (he was born in Colombia).
