Morales, Carlos O.

Morales, Carlos O., Puerto Rican composer; b. San Juan, June 17, 1953. He studied at the Cons, of Music in Puerto Rico, graduating with degrees in guitar performance (1976) and music education (1977). He subsequently taught there, and also studied at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. In 1979 he went to Calif., where he continued his composition studies. He is known primarily for his transcriptions to guitar of music originally written for the Renaissance laud. He was a prof, of music history at the Interamerican Univ. of Puerto Rico in German. Among his original compositions are Thanks after Communion for Men’s Chorus (1980), Etapas for Flute (1981), 2 symphonic poems, Guanina (1981) and La Campana del Ingenio (1984), and numerous works for solo guitar, including Nocturno (1984) and Canción de Cuna (1985).
