Karadži?, Radovan
Karadžić, Radovan (1945– ) Bosnian Serb politician. In 1990, he founded the Serbian Democratic Party. In 1992, Bosnia-Herzegovina voted for independence from the Serb-dominated federation of Yugoslavia. Karadžić declared a separate Bosnian Serb state, Republika Srpska, with himself as president. With the support of Serbian President Slobodan Milošević, he instituted a policy of ‘ethnic cleansing’ of non-Serbs from the republic and waged war against the Bosnian state. In 1995, Milošević withdrew his support and Karadžić was forced to sign the Dayton Peace Accord with Bosnian President Izetbegović. In 1996, he was indicted by the United Nations (UN) for war crimes but remained at large.
