Ramsey, John de
Ramsey, John de (fl. 1304–39). English master-mason. He was the son of Richard Curteys (fl. c.1300—probably Richard Le Machun, mason, of Norwich Cathedral from 1285 to 1290), and was Master of the Works at Norwich in 1304, when he was working on the detached belfry. He worked on (and may have designed) the south part of the cloisters at Norwich (1324–30), and was probably in charge of the works at Ely Cathedral (1322–c.1326). He is likely to have been the master-mason of that name (d. 1349) who settled in London, where the de Ramseys worked on several important projects.
