haematuria (heem-a-tewr-ia) n. the passage of blood in the urine, which may be detected by the naked eye (frank h.), urine microscopy (microscopic h.), or urinalysis sticks (‘dipstix’ h.). Haematuria is associated with transitional cell carcinoma (the most common form of bladder cancer), kidney cancer, urinary-tract infections, stone disease, and some forms of glomerulonephritis.
