digoxin (dy-goks-in) n. a drug derived from digitalis that increases the force of heart muscle contraction and decreases heart rate. It is administered by mouth or injection to treat heart failure and supraventricular tachycardia. Digitoxin is a related drug with similar uses. Trade name: Lanoxin.
