PERSONAL: Born December 9, 1956, in NY; daughter of Charles and Barbara (Tisdale) Ross. Ethnicity: "Caucasian." Education: Dominican College (now Dominican College of California), San Rafael, B.A. (summa cum laude), 1978; University of California, Davis, M.A., 1981; University of California, Santa Barbara, Ph.D., 1987.

CAREER: Writer. National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC, intern and staff lecturer, 1982; Dominican University of California, San Rafael, faculty member, 1985–94, professor of art history, 1994–, and program chair, also member of Humanities Cooperative Research Center, 1986–88, Irving presidential fellow, 1990–92. Guest lecturer at other institutions, including St. Anselm College, and Indiana State University; conference presenter; speaker at museums.

MEMBER: International Center of Medieval Art, College Art Association of America, Popular Culture Association, National Trust for Historic Preservation, Classical Alliance of the Western States, Geoffrey Chaucer and Company (member of board of directors).
